Elegant. Aromatic. Distinctly local. Hor Lor, meaning “gourd gourd” in Hokkien, is one of Penang’s most iconic durians, beloved for its long, slightly curved shape and unmistakable fragrance. Grown mainly in the lush orchards of Balik Pulau, this variety brings a classic old-world flavor that’s becoming increasingly rare.

The flesh is a beautiful pale yellow — smooth, rich, and gently sweet with a whisper of bitterness. It’s not as loud or creamy as Musang King, but that’s the charm: Hor Lor is refined, subtle, and sophisticated in its flavor, with a floral top note that lingers.
